According to the report from ReCAAP Information Sharing Center (ISC), Within a period of three days (7–9 Aug 23), four robbery incidents occurred to bulk carriers while underway in the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait (SS):
one incident occurred on 7 Aug, two incidents on 8 Aug, and one incident on 9 Aug.
In one incident, the perpetrators were armed with knives, and the perpetrators were not armed in the other three incidents. Engine spares were stolen in all four incidents.
Fortunately, no crew got injured in all the incidents.
ReCAAP ISC advises that all ships intensify vigilance and maintain sharp look-out while transiting the areas of concern, particularly during hours of darkness, adopt preventive measures recommended in the Regional Guide 2 to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia, and report all incidents immediately to the nearest coastal State and flag State.
